In their interviews for the Archive of Refuge, Khesrau Behroz and Sasha Marianna Salzmann talk about the fragility of memory. Both came to Germany with their parents as children. In conversation with editor Eva Gilmer, they reflect on the conditions of storytelling itself and ask: How accurate or fragmentary are their own memories? How are memories passed on from generation to generation and changed in the process? What fears and what expectations of parents or grandparents are transmitted? What experiences are concealed because they are undesirable or shameful in this society? What are the dramaturgical requirements for the narration of flight and expulsion, but also of arrival and diaspora?
