What needs to change in schools in view of the climate crisis? Saving CO2 is important, but curricula and subject structures also need to be rethought. Can artistic approaches motivate schools to become fit for the future of the climate?

How can schools become good places to arrive? In an examination of the oral history project Archive of Refuge, students explore how migration changes school realities.

As part of Education Shock, students teamed up with artists ans engaged with their school buildings of the 1960s and 1970s. They devised a manifesto for the design of good learning environments. Starting in June 2021, the eight participating Berlin schools and the students’ visions can be explored on audio walks.

Schools are laboratories for the society of tomorrow. But how can they enable democratic, self-determined and sustainable action? In school year 2020/2021, with projects at eleven Berlin schools and a project group in Naples, students, along with artists and everyday experts, explore the question of how school can teach agency and engagement in young people’s lives.

With the Schools of Tomorrow project, since 2017 HKW has been investigating the question of how schools today can become places where a desirable society is built.

In their school lives, teens in particular are experts in the immigration society yet they rarely have a say about it. Since December 2016, students at the Staatliche Europa-Schulen in Berlin have been seeking new imagery, presentation formats and narratives that do justice to their points of view.
