For the final Opening Days evening, author and cultural scholar Josh Kun teams up with composer and musician Milad Khawam to explore the music of migration in a lecture performance. Building on their previous collaborations, the duo will mix live performance with storytelling. During Khawam’s journey from Damascus to Germany in 2015, eventually settling in Berlin, the Syrian trumpeter began composing songs that would become the album To the West. In this special expanded presentation of the record, Khawam and Kun interpret the work that the composer originally recorded in Berlin together with musicians from Syria, Palestine and Germany.
