Berlin Mondiale: “What do you dream of?”

Vacation photography workshops

“My House Is Your House.” In Latin America, guests are welcomed with the saying “Mi casa es tu casa.” The refugee shelter Haus Leo and HKW took this as their motto when they opened their doors to each other in fall 2014.

The project was launched in the 2014 fall school vacation. The subject was wishes. Photographer Jan von Holleben asked the young shelter residents “What do you dream of?” For three days, the children drew, discussed, and worked to translate their desires into visual form. Finally, in a reprographics studio equipped with all kinds of props, craft materials, and toys, they realized their visions in a photographic composition. Set up entirely by analog means, the photos tell stories of flying houses, sun-conjuring fairies, mighty barbarian kings, trophy-winning soccer players, divers in love, and successful supermodels. During the 2015 Easter vacation, the children will again create images with Jan von Holleben, this time answering the question “What do you want to be?”

Images from the workshop are available as postcards in the HKW Shop.
