ARONAS @ Sydney Festival 2009

“Their originality deserves a galaxy of stars,” says the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper about Aronas' electro-jazz. The New Zealand-born 24-year-old Aron Ottignon and his combo have won over Australia. Now he plans to conquer the rest of the world with his vibrant electro-jazz.

Aronas plays an explosive combination of live dance, jazz and South Pacific grooves. The band gets their audiences up and dancing with its dynamic rhythms. Aron Ottignon found inspiration from relatively untapped musical waters: the percussive log-drumming music of the South Pacific that Ottignon heard while growing up in Auckland, New Zealand. Even after moving to Australia, he scored: In 2003, he won the local Bells Award as best young jazz musician. Wearing a Mohawk and plastic glasses, Aron looks like a fallen New Waver: His piano playing adds a breath of fresh air to jazz piano music.

This event is part of the Asia-Pacific Weeks 2009. The Asia-Pacific Weeks are made possible by the Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin.
