Throughout the history of the Enlightenment there has been a demand for the "scientific" display of indigenous bones and body parts, from the recently exhibited "Hottentots-Venus" at the Paris Musee de L'homme to the skull of Geronimo preserved at Yale. What do these practices tell us about the ethics of science in Europe today? Klaus-Peter Köpping is a professor emeritus of anthropology at the University of Heidelberg.
