Rubbish City (2008)
Four performers amidst mountains of hundredweight bulk garbage: a man who talks the entire time – it is unclear to whom; a little girl in a white dress folding paper boats; a man in a black suit who could be an emcee if that would make any sense at all in such a setting, between it all, Yingmei Duan, naked, exposed, her eyes closed. Something like communication doesn’t occur. The visitor is immersed in this cosmos of rubbish and the people who live in it - and after a while the apocalyptic scenario transforms into something familiar.
Yingmei Duan worked as a freelance artist at the artist colony East Village in Beijing, prior to moving to Germany in 1998 to study with Marina Abramovic, Christoph Schlingensief, and others.
