2+2=22 [The Alphabet]
D: H. Emigholz, 88 min, German OV with English subtitles
2+2=22 [The Alphabet] occupies a special place in the work of Heinz Emigholz. Here, the focus is suddenly on Kreidler, the band Emigholz has repeatedly collaborated with in his architectural films, but in which they have always remained in the background. Something shifts. 2+2=22 [The Alphabet] is a film composition made up of three elements: Footage of Kreidler, architectural footage of the often brutalist buildings and streets in Tbilisi, and 26 of Emigholz’s sketchbooks. How do these building blocks go together if 2+2=22? What insight does this film give us into Emigholz’s cinematic and artistic universe, and what does all this have to do with Godard’s film One Plus One from 1968?
Followed by a Q&A session with Heinz Emigholz, Andreas Reihse and Bettina Steinbrügge
