Schindlers Häuser
D: H. Emigholz, 99 min, German OV
The filmmaker’s photographic gaze. That’s the subject. “When I look through the camera, I compose the image’s structures and lines.” Heinz Emigholz looks at the structures and lines of 40 homes and beach houses by Austrian-American architect Rudolph Schindler (1887-1953). His gaze is static, the movement is in the images. Film and photography. Film photography. The gaze that makes an image. Showing, not explaining. Meaning in images.

Bickels [Socialism]
D: H. Emigholz, 92 min, English OV with subtitles
The prologue of Bickels [Socialism] opens in a culture building in São Paulo with a gathering for a joint viewing of a film, which shows 22 communal buildings, most of them built for Kibbuzim and planned by the same socialist architect: Bickels. Filmed in a sequence of shots, natural lighting, ambient sound, and no words, architecture presents itself here and now. The contemplative viewing in the group triggers conversation. The film Bickels [Socialism] is accompanied by Bickels Film Talks, a documentation of group discussions following the joint viewing of Bickels [Socialism].
Followed by a discussion with Galia Bar Or, Heinz Emigholz, Anselm Franke and Wilfried Reichart
