A doctor who migrated from Nigeria, and a New York hopeful, against the London underworld.

The doctor Okwe (Chiwetel Ejiofor) lives and works illegally as a night porter and taxi driver in London, while by day he sleeps on the sofa of Senay, a cleaning lady (Audrey Tautou) who is also staying in the British capital illegally. When Okwe makes a horrifying discovery, the unstable and inhumane network in which the migrants circulate quickly becomes calamitous for the pair. Stephen Frears’ engaged statement on the country’s catastrophic immigration policies has lost none of its timeliness—quite the contrary.
