Field Causality
The Anthropocene Project. An Encyclopedia
Causality is a reproducible link between cause and effect, thus applying to the series of events and states and, depending on the cause, has a fixed temporal direction, according to Wikipedia. Cowboy shoots Indian. Indian dead. Is here only the temporal sequence of relevance or also the American dream? And what distinguishes our view of this in 1813 and in 2014? On the one hand, it’s about the question of how zeitgeist and ideology shape perception, but also the question of context, the field. A dense texture of manifold forces, links and associations, chains of reaction between things, individuals, and milieus, interests, technologies, environmental conditions: the space for beholding expands. How can genocides be studied, cyclones and droughts be examined, progress be evaluated without thinking in biased or unanimous ways?
