Exhibition
Sat, Sep 1–Sun, Sep 30, 2012
In close proximity to the government district, where the latest decisions on the future of Europe are being made, is the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, formerly the Congress Hall: an architectural icon and relic of post-war modernity. The building and its history provide the starting point for "Between Walls and Windows. Architektur und Ideologie".
Only in September sections of the architectural monument, understood as an ideologically determined sculpture, will be returned to their original condition. The architecture thus revealed opens itself up to interventions from international artists and architects, who, in ten new site-specific works, explore architecture in an expanded field and all its potentiality. The result is the recontextualization of the local history of the Congress Hall at a contemporary, global level.
For the duration of the exhibition the architectural landmark can be experienced as a large-scale sculpture, free of charge and with access from all points. An extensive accompanying program explores the dimensions of architecture as an instrument in the history of architecture, philosophy and politics.
