Elemotho
Meditative Criticism of the System
From young boy on a farm in the red sands of the Kalahari Desert to a career as a musician and a degree in philosophy: Elemotho grew up with storytelling by the campfire and began writing his own songs at the age of 17. In 2003, the title of his first, highly successful album gave voice to his thinking: “The System Is A Joke“.
He sees himself as a musical activist: “I like to paint a picture in which not only the cords are tangible, but also the energy, and whose words carry a power that transcends bullets and hunger.“ The rhythms and frequently meditative melodies are inspired by the Kalahari, where the Bantu and the San meet with their special dances, and by Jazz influences. One newspaper in his native Namibia hit the nail on the head, poetically describing his music as “The sound of the future that is already making waves today“.
