Matias Aguayo presents in collaboration with Avril Ceballos a night of dancemusic of Mexiko today: Cumbias rebajadas, selected by Aguayo and Toy Selectah, Rebolledo and Daniel Maloso on their psychedelic techno desert sound, DJ Otto, Erick Rincon and Sheeqo Beat introducing the Tribal Guaracha Sound from Monterrey, Arturo Heras aka Latinfania representing the genuine Sonidero Soundsystem, and "Huichol Musical" a band playing their uptempo cumbia huichol rhythms.

DJ and vocal drummer Matias Aguayo is renowned for his quasi-live sets and the legendary bumbumbox parties in cities from Buenos Aires through Rio to Santiago de Chile. Living between Buenos Aires and Paris and with social connections from Santiago de Chile to Cologne, this musician is bored by the usual club culture. In collaboration with Avril Ceballos Ortiz, he has produced his own “after work experience” for WORLDTRONICS10, featuring his favorite musical discoveries from his travels around Mexico. While Toy Selectah already wowed the audience as a participant of the “Cumbia digital“ evening at last year’s WORLDTRONICS, the majority of this year’s artists are playing in Europe for the first time. Matias Aguayo wrote down what fascinated him about the musicians he chose. We copied his words.

Latinfania aka Arturo Heras

This DJ hails from the “Sonidero“ tradition. These are traveling sound systems which provide dance music for outdoor parties: Salsa, Cumbia, Danzón, Guaracha. Arturo Heras has been on the go since the early 80s. The people party, dance and give him scraps of paper with musical requests or just the names of people they want greeted over the loudspeakers.

DJ Otto, Erick Rincon + Sheeqo Beat

These young men, some of whom have yet to reach adulthood – in conjunction with the collective “3 Ball MTY“ – stand for the sound of “Guaracha Tribal“, which enjoys great popularity among teenagers. The attempt to make Trance or Techno to the background of Guaracha rhythms has produced one of today’s most modern rhythms. Inquisitive and innovative DJs are gradually introducing this music here in Germany – but tonight, the original is coming.

Huichol Musical

This band of Huicholes, indigenous people of central west Mexico, scored a hit with “Cumbia Cusinela“, a fantastic, repetitive, up-tempo number played with guitars and violins and sung in the Huichol language. It may have the term Cumbia in the title, but the piece itself is immune to pigeon-holing and not only brings about the urge to dance, it produces sheer amazement.

Rebolledo + Daniel Maloso

The life sources of DJ Rebolledo’s music are a hefty dose of Psychedelica, the hard beats of Techno and his knowledge of Disco. With teeth and fists clenched, it’s a motocross race between Giorgio Moroder and Jack The Ripper. Things heat up just as much with Daniel Maloso. He dances, plays, sweats, beats the drums and bellows his staccato-like, rhythmic recitals into the microphone. “Ritmo Especial“ has already become an emblematic classic of the “Cómeme“, which Matias Aguayo runs along with other Latin American musicians.
