Opening
The cultural program of the Asia-Pacific Weeks 2009 and Frenetic Homeland
The push towards modernization arouses a desire for slowness and social upheaval for reflection. The artists of FRENETIC HOMELAND come from such diverse cities as Jakarta, Osaka and Beijing, but they have much in common: Their societies are changing, rapidly. Nervous agitation and speed are inscribed in their art - and also resistance to thoughtless, technocratic megalomania.
The actress Inga Busch will read from Suketu Mehta's "Maximum City - Bombay Lost and Found". Mehta has dedicated a sensational work to the city of his childhood, a book about the megalopolises of the future. A performance by Qiu Zhijie, Beijing concludes the program.
This event is part of the Asia-Pacific Weeks 2009. The Asia-Pacific Weeks are made possible by the Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin.
