The Vanishing (Spoorloos)

For years, Rex searches for his girlfriend, who disappeared from the face of the earth, as it were, at a petrol station. He uses every means at his disposal to find her and still cannot stop searching even after his new wife leaves him as a result. When he is finally contacted by the kidnapper, the two men develop an obsessive relationship with one another: Rex is determined to find out what happened to his girlfriend. His counterpart wants confirmation that he is a genius and is desperate to crown one perfect crime with another. A thriller in the Hitchcock tradition of suspense that constantly intensifies the tortuous tension between the two antagonists.
