Zydeco brings blues and R&B together with music styles of the Indigenous population and French Creoles. That alone is a melting pot of influences. But in the hands of Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. & The Zydeco Twisters, the style native to southwest Louisiana becomes even more multifaceted. When Dopsie Jr. straps on the washboard and takes the mic, he expands classic zydeco with elements of soul and, of course, funky undertones that are an integral part of New Orleans music.
Tuba Skinny came together on the streets of New Orleans and became an internationally known band. Originally, the group was dedicated to interpreting classical jazz, ragtime and the blues but over the years, tours and numerous studio albums, they constantly expanded their repertoire to include spirituals, R&B and jug band music. The title of their current album with blues singer Maria Muldaur articulates the motivation that guides them both on the road and on stage: Let’s Get Happy Together!
