The Front de Libération Nationale (FLN) called Algerian residents of so-called Bidonville, a poor section of Paris, to hold a peaceful demonstration on October 17, 1961. The police attacked the demonstrators, who were demanding ceasefire negotiations and protesting the curfew imposed on them, with inconceivable brutality. According to estimates, up to 300 were killed. Filmmaker Panijel combines documents of the night with reenactments. The documentary, which was initially banned after its release in France, reconstructs the events and a part of French history that has not yet been fully appraised.
