Catherine Robinson (BBC) and Paul Oomen (4DSOUND):
Radiophonic Spaces makes comprehensible the change in the hearing habits brought about by radio. It emerges that the technical framework of Radiophonic Spaces itself defines certain rules that govern the experience of the acoustic archive. The relationship to the “sender” and the “receiver” but also the definition of “radiophonics” is in constant motion and is being expanded and questioned by new technical possibilities. Spatial sound, virtual reality, binaural recording, and reproduction techniques, but also neural networks and deep learning—the cultural techniques of hearing could change just as drastically in the next few years, as it did 100 years ago when radio began its victorious course.
