How are young people given the skills to imagine a better future? Cultural anthropologist Arjun Appadurai demands support from society and government for their “capacity to aspire.” In his closing talk, he drafts approaches for a policy of hope that frees itself of the notions of a lack of alternatives and practical constraints and stands up to social inequality. Later, in her commentary, Carmen Mörsch interrogates the "capacity to aspire" with regards to artists‘ involvement within school education. (How) can they contribute to an educational approach that actually strives for a change in societal conditions and its exclusions? What roles do schools and cultural institutions play in this?
