A cult gangster film featuring music by its star Jimmy Cliff
Freshly arrived in Kingston, Ivan dreams of wealth and fame. His attempt to forge a career as a reggae singer fails. He starts to sell marijuana, but here too others make the real money. Finally, he acquires a gun, gets involved in a squabble with the police and drug bosses, and becomes an infamous popular legend. The first movie made in Jamaica gained a cult following: not just for its social critique, but also for its soundtrack, featuring the film’s starring actor Jimmy Cliff , Toots & the Maytals, and Desmond Dekker.
