The summer spent by Mecha and her family in the country is dominated by damp heat and alcohol vapors. Her cousin Tali lives in the next town with her husband and four children. There are scratches, wounds, injuries everywhere. Not only do the swamps and rifles make a land that has long sunken into the mire a threatening place. The servants are berated as lazy thieves, dark family secrets come to light, while sex and death are omnipresent.

This masterpiece of New Argentine Cinema is irresistible in its elliptic form, sensuality, aesthetic codes and sounds. Winner of the 2001 Alfred Bauer Prize at the Berlinale.

  • “A founding classic of New Argentine Cinema and one of the most impressive debuts in contemporary film.” Alan Pauls
