Los rubios (The Blonds)
D: Albertina Carri, ARG 2003, 89 min, English subtitles
Albertina Carri is four years old in 1977 when her parents are abducted and murdered by the military junta. How does one reconstruct memory, model one’s own identity to grasp the painful absence of mother and father: “the blonds”?
In her bold punk autobiography, Carri probes memories scene-byscene, interviews neighbors, relatives, police officers, companions, shaping stories and photos into realities. She chooses the “making of” an experimental documentary film, animates happy toy beings, grapples for answers with the help of an actor, her film crew, and her camera.
“Los rubios addresses a traumatic past, courageously and without idealizing.” Alan Pauls
