Neco Novellas
Working with his siblings, the classically trained musician fashions jazz-pop-folk fusions.
His childhood in Maputo must have been like life in a musical: “Novella’s Music for the World.” Dance, traditional music, Western music in church, jazz, folk and pop on the radio – Neco and his siblings were always surrounded by music. Aided by a scholarship, Neco’s hunger for music led him to study abroad, first in Portugal and later the Netherlands, where he immersed himself deeply in classical music, steadily expanding his artistic vocabulary. He maintained his family ties, and when it came time to release his own work, he called on his siblings for reinforcement. And so his music remains: not jazz, not pop, not folk, but simply “Novella’s Music for the World.”
