Her career between Hollywood and Portugal, between theater, silver screen and director’s chair, has expanded since 2007 to encompass great success as a singer.

From “Pulp Fiction” to “Chicken with Plums,” Maria de Medeiros’ journey between Hollywood and Portugal, between theater, silver screen and director’s chair, almost obscures her success as a singer. She made her acclaimed debut in 2007, launching a singing career in which she has – as in her main occupation – slipped from one role into another, including an engagement for UNESCO. In seven languages, from French to Catalonian, Kimbundu to Portuguese, she sings songs by the likes of Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, Victor Jara, Lenine and José Afonso. And Medeiros, daughter of the pianist, composer and author António Victorino d’Almeida, always surrounds herself with top-flight musicians who, with seeming ease, conjure a jazzy set for her performances.
