A batalha de Tabatô (The Battle of Tabatô)

A film whose black and white imagery is abruptly perforated by the red color of blood stemming from the trauma suffered during the war. Fatu’s father Imutar returns to Guinea-Bissau to attend his daughter’s wedding to Idrissa, a well-known musician in town. On the way to Tabatô, the old man relives the horrors of the war of liberation against Portugal. What is more, in his trolley bag he carries with him actual relics of the war. When the Mandinka of Tabatô - famous for its music - take up their drums against the trauma, they are fighting a battle for the future. Yet it appears as if Fatu becomes a final victim of a war long past.
