Cape Verde Islands/Spain 2010, 80 min, Creole with English subtitles

This portrayal of the rich music scene of the Cape Verde Islands is fiction feature as well as a documentary film – with a multitude of authentic voices, sounds and rhythms. Beyond that it also tells the story of emigration to Europe, which could gradually bring about the disappearance of the islands’ culture: Beti, a dancer from the company Raiz de Polon, receives an offer to perform in a show in Lisbon. Her elation over this opportunity is mixed with the profound sadness over her upcoming departure, the “saudade” of the Cape Verdes. The film includes encounters with and songs by Cesária Évora, Mayra Andrade, Prinzesito as well as many others.
