bio boro
Seydou Boro (*1968) started off as an actor, but he has also performed in countless stage productions and films. In 1992, he began working artistically with Salia Sanou in a partnership that has continued up to the present. They formed the group CREDO (Centre de Recherche et d’Echanges Dramatiques) and later joined Mathilde Monnier’s dance-theatre ensemble at the Choreographic Centre in Montpellier. The productions staged by their company salia ni seydou, which was founded in 1994, have toured the world, received many awards, and done much to make the new contemporary African dance scene known across the globe. They won the top prize of the Concours de Danse Contemporaine Africaine d’Afrique en Création with their very first combined work: Le siècle des fous. In 2002, Seydou Boro was awarded the prize Mérite des Art et des Lettres for his choreographic work in France, Africa and other parts of the world. In 2003, the Agence Intergouvernementale de la Francophonie elected him Artist of the Year. In addition to working as a dancer and choreographer, Seydou Boro has also written plays. In 2002 he completed L’Exil dans l’Asile, and also conceived and realised documentary films on creative African dance, including La Rencontre (1999, 52 min./Arte 2000) and La Danseuse d’Ebène, (2002, 56 min., First Prize at the Vues d’Afrique festival in 2003).
