Tomi Simatupang is at home in many musical fields. The Indonesian-born guitarist, bassist, and percussionist has been involved in Berlin’s anti-folk scene and played in the HKW local series in 2009, among other events. He has immersed himself deeply in traditional Indonesian music and studied under the avant-garde gamelan composer Gutama Soegijo. And he has close contacts in the Berlin jazz scene, from which a large part of his band, That Tomi Simatupang Incarnation, was recruited. For the theatrically staged concert “Jabitudu Persilasi - A Pilot Incarnation” – which will combine the band’s own compositions and improvisation with pieces by Billie Holiday, The Clash, and Muhammad Arifin – the group will be backed by the Chor der Kulturen der Welt directed by Barbara Morgenstern.
