On the Situation Facing Art in China
What social role does art play in China? What motivates Chinese art and to what extent does this motor of artistic creation move us? UdK and HKW are launching a series that looks at China’s turbulent artistic landscape from new perspectives. The discussions take up positions in the field of tension between political and poetic strategies and explore the social role of the artists, on the one hand, and the artistic visions that move the country, on the other. First up is the artist and this year’s director of the Shanghai Biennale, Qiu Zhijie, who presented his first European work, the project Frenetic Homeland, in 2009 in the HKW. He provides insights into his rich artistic work.
Monuments and Remembrance
Lecture by Qiu Zhijie, followed by a discussion with Davide Quadrio about the concept of Shanghai Biennale 2012.
