In this autobiographical documentary, Yavuz tells a depressing family story, which, at the same time, is full of respect for the life work of his father. The beginning in his father’s native Kurdish countryside is contrasted with the life of a “guest worker” in 1960s Germany: a grim apartment in Hamburg’s “Little Istanbul”, ten-hour days on the docks and the loneliness of living without his wife, who stayed back in Turkey.
