Oksana Sabuschko's novel is a decisive and at times shocking analysis of social conditions in Ukraine. Above all, it looks at the question of how the past and inherited traumata are dealt with. She tells the stories of three women in a complex panorama which also tells the difficult and convoluted history of Ukraine in the 20th century.
