Martin Pollack tells the story of Galician emigrants who fled from the Hapsburg Monarchy around 1900 to seek their fortunes in America. In the hope of being welcomed by the "Emperor of America" they become easy prey for American profiteers. A story about perennial losers, and the perennial winners who profit from the hardship of others.
