"Delta" tells the story of a young man, who after years of being away returns to his village on the banks of the Danube. There he meets his younger sister who he knew nothing about. They grow very close and increasingly retreat from the community. Their self-styled refuge is the Danube Delta, where they set up their own stilt house. The villagers, though, refuse to allow the sibling’s strange relationship and hermetic existence to continue. Mundruczós taciturn drama is an elegy to the watercourses, islands and wild vegetation at the mouth of the Danube on the Black Sea, one of the few remaining natural landscapes in Europe. An archaic location, where man is only a guest.
