Hélio Oiticica, Brazilian artist and inventor of Tropicalismo , designed in the 1970s his "Programs in Progress" in New York: fragmentary epistles in a variety of languages along with neologisms, projections of "situations to be lived," the starting point for attempts at "unconditioned” ways of being in the world. The American Studies scholar Laura Harris investigates how these unusual documents can create a new understanding of work, authorship and citizenship.
