C'est à dire (That is to say)
Solo by and with Seydou Boro (Burkina Faso/France)
German première - in French with German translation
Seydou Boro dances through passages of his life on an otherwise empty stage. In this impressive solo performance the exceptional dancer and former stage actor falls back on language, thus emancipating African dance from the cliché of being naïvely physical. It is the most personal and radical work to date by this young African, who worked for quite some time with the French choreographer Mathilde Monnier.
“'C’est à dire …' is a fragment of my life. I had to expose myself to danger in a solo performance, to show myself naked.” Seydou BoroThis piece if the fifth work produced in connection with the Salia N_ Seydou company, which Boro founded with Salia Sanou in the mid-nineties. It is also his first solo work. With his radical choreography, Seydou Boro raises questions about his relationship to dance – and he does this so rigorously that "C’est à dire …" accurately reflects the role of African dance on the international dance scene.
