Erika Fischer-Lichte (Germany)

In her talk, Erika Fischer-Lichte examines the interpenetration of theatre cultures at the beginning of the twentieth century and today. She focuses on the creation of a new aesthetics and its social and political function in homogenous and diversified societies. With her work Die Ästhetik des Performativen, theatre analyst Erika Fischer-Lichte laid the theoretical basis for the ‘performative turn’ in the cultural sciences.
