Exhibition visit and workshop
Mirror, Mirror in My Hand – Body Performances Online
In German
Meeting point at 10 am inside HKW, after lunch participants will take a trip to the FrauenComputerZentrumBerlin e.V. (FCZB)
For girls, women and non-binary people aged 16-99 years old
Parts of the exhibition contain filmic and photographic representations of naked bodies, which will be viewed and discussed together during the workshop.
What happens when you type “beautiful woman” into a search engine? Every day, Instagram and TikTok bombard their users with conventional beauty ideals. How do trends like the thigh gap, hourglass figure and Kardashian face influence our perceptions of self and others? Presentations of bodies on social media are often unconscious and rarely self-determined. They correspond to the collective expectations of an online community and rarely to those of the individual.
In the workshop we question the performances of bodies considered female on social media as a form of oppression. In doing so, we examine the dominant imagery on social media and reveal body stereotypes. As part of the workshop, we will visit the exhibition No Master Territories and take a journey through the past.
Together we will look for themes that are still relevant today: shame, self-doubt and the (socially influenced) view of bodies. The workshop invites participants to question their own identity and to see themselves in a new way.
