The life of adorable six-year-old Hushpuppy (Quvenzhané Wallis) in a regularly flooded Louisiana marsh called “The Bathtub” by its inhabitants follows the tides: They rise and fall, giving and taking life and food. When Hushpuppy’s father (Dwight Henry) has an accident, the girl’s life changes. Will crocodile meat help? Benh Zeitlin’s 2012 debut film plays with magical realism, making its protagonists part of their powerful natural home.
