The disappearance of three young civil rights activists in a small town in Mississippi brings two FBI agents (Gene Hackman and Willem Dafoe) to the scene. Their investigations collide with the candid, centuries-old racism of a white majority society that doesn’t shy from torture and lynching. Alan Parker’s 1988 drama is set in 1964 and based on true events – a gritty, brilliantly acted and filmed portrait of society.
