Documentary and fictional forms, animated, short and feature films: With unconventional visual languages, Berlinale Generation is dedicated to the life worlds of young people.
A boulder is blocking the community square? In Luce and the Rock, the village’s only child befriends the rock and lures it back to its mountain. A father can’t cope with the death of his wife? In Comedy Queen, his daughter decides to make him smile again. Berlinale Generation focuses on young people; how they look at the world, take possession of this world or resist it. The 24 feature-length and 28 short films tell of the mountain-moving power inherent in them. In a time of social isolation, the interpersonal moments in the films leave an especially powerful impression: In Rooz-e sib, an Iranian family lovingly and imaginatively sticks together, despite all odds. In Stay Awake, two brothers maintain a sort of daily routine with their opium-addicted mother. The Land of Sasha and La Fièvre explore the fine line between friendship and love. It’s about the contradictory feelings of growing up, their absoluteness and uncompromisingness.
The two competitions Generation Kplus and Generation 14plus will be formally opened on February 10.
With films by Inês T. Alves, Mahmoud Ghaffari, Rebecca Huntt, Lee Ji-eun, Emma Kawawada, Sara Kern, Claudia Sainte-Luce, Farkhat Sharipov and others.
