Can kin gossip from the dirt? What might an axolotl teach about acts of care? Is tenderness a possibility in an extractive world? The out of doors Saturday program weaves through non-human and toxic worlds to explore tender acts of refusal that open up possibilities of repair and transformation.
In A Paradise Out of A Common Field, Bassam Al Sabah and Jennifer Mehigan unpack the colonial history of the Irish graveyard and its relationship to trauma. In Their Eyes Have No Lids, Salvatore Arrancio shows the care of the axolotl - a rare amphibian once considered a god by Aztec culture - by nuns of a Mexican monastery. In Sour Dirt Diane Edwards renders the poisonous and weird reality of digital world-making and in Soot Breath // Corpus Infinitum, Arjuna Neuman and Denise Ferreira da Silva reimagine an existence outside of predatory desire and extractive conditions such as ethnography, border regimes, slavery and global trade.
Afterwards there will be a DJ set by Arad at HKW’s Weltwirtschaft.
