Lars TCF Holdhus

Sat, Nov 14, 2020
Sat, Nov 14, 2020
Cancelled, digital version early December

Whether creating works of art from credit card data or hiding images in his musical compositions as spectrographs, in his artistic practice, Lars Holdhus deals with questions of transparency and encryption, knowledge and power in an interdisciplinary manner. Most recently, he and an artificial intelligence named TCFX developed an audiovisual live set, which is being sent around the world in the artist’s place. The software, which is constantly optimized through machine learning, places a virtual double of Holdhus in a simulated game world and plays his sound-image compositions. It is to be understood both as an actual alternative to ecologically questionable touring and as a speculative and decidedly playful experiment on the future of live performances in general. But at HKW, Holdhus will physically back up his virtual alter ego in the performance and speak on the panel Looking at Music: After the Laptop Performance.
