Christiane Rösinger
Christiane Rösinger is steely, but that doesn’t mean that she’s not flexible. As a songwriter, novelist and columnist, she can pack sharp social criticism into toe-tapping songs to suddenly change her medium and tackle new projects. Most recently, for example, a musical that playfully took up the themes of the song Eigentumswohnung on her LP Lieder ohne Leiden (Songs without Suffering) and thus the struggle of Berlin renters for their living space.
Nansea
Marek Polgesek AKA Nansea makes seemingly airy, light chamber pop that is permeated by deep melancholy alongside socio-political issues. On their EP Comfort, Polgesek negotiated the dynamics of normativity and otherness, which shape the world experience of many queer people, in Polish and English with a voice reminiscent of both Jeff Buckley and Rufus Wainwright. As much as Nansea’s music takes up certain conventions, it subverts them at the same time.
