Vlatka Horvat

nomadic new york counters Manhattan's restless flow of money with "decelerated" in-between spaces. Their performance art refuses spectacle. It takes on a political dimension through the formation of temporary collectives which occupy spaces in new ways. The artists open up New York and Berlin through their nomadic coming and going, their avoidance of fixed structures. In Berlin they will tell us a story of life in the global metropolis, a story that we all have in common.

A Sisyphus task, though not without humour: As if possessed, the Croatian-born live art practitioner Vlatka Horvat stacks chairs, only to immediately move them around again. The changing arrangements are at times expansive, at times compact, sometimes strictly geometrical, then seemingly random. The observer cannot help but read into the arrangements all imaginable relationships and plots. Using motion, rest, continuity, order, intervention, participation in social space, Vlatka Horvat allows everyday and enigmatic narratives to emerge which can be picked up and continued through the conscious or unconscious engagement of the audience.
