An undercover cop in Cape Town on the trail of the “white gold”

A corpse is washed up on the beach in Cape Town, probably a member of the Chinese Triads. The undercover cop Sizwe Miya discovers that the murder is related to the valuable Abalone sea snail, which the Chinese call “white gold,” and becomes embroiled in a maelstrom of violence, corruption, and the evil business of illegal fishing. McKenzie’s captivating thriller shows the dark underworld of the country at the southern tip of Africa, addressing the destruction of marine wildlife through overfishing.
