Sufi poetry here and now: On her debut album "Bird Under Water" Arooj Aftab combines sensitive jazz sounds with the virtuosity of Western and Eastern classical music, upright bass and drums with sitar and bansuri.
Her sound has been compared to that of pop innovators such as Björk and Radiohead. The singer and composer’s journey has taken her from Lahore, Pakistan over Berklee to Brooklyn, bewitching live audiences and the media from The New York Times to MTV Desi.
