In the 1970s, Les Ambassadeurs were a magnet for West Africa’s most gifted musicians. Led by composer Manfila Kanté, the group originally provided entertainment as the house band at the Motel de Bamako in Mali. It became one of the most popular musical ensembles in the region and was a formative station for the future world stars Salif Keïta, Cheick Tidiane Seck, and Amadou Bagayoko of the duo Amadou & Mariam.

Albums like “Les Ambassadeurs du Motel” (1976) and “Les Ambassadeurs Internationaux” (1982) combine the traditions of the griots, in the Mandinka or Wolof languages, with musical influences from Afro-Latin, jazz, funk, and international pop. In 1985, after fifteen years, the members went their separate ways, but in 2013 their fans’ long-time dream came true: the stars reunited and, joined by new personnel, went on tour, taking their now-classic repertoire to the stages of the world.

Les Ambassadeurs support Salif Keita’s foundation, which defends the rights of people with albinism: the EP „Rebirth“ comprises four hits of the band. All income from downloads and online sales (iTunes / deezer) goes to the Salif Nantenin Keita Foundation
