Connecting Cities ‘In/Visible Cities 2015 - Prototyping Lab’

In this panel discussion the Prototyping Lab’s Jury Board and its moderators as well as international Connecting Cities artists will discuss the topic of ‘In/Visible Cities’.

Today’s modern cities are hybrid structures in which technology is invisibly interweaved in the perception layers of our everyday lives. With the curatorial theme of ‘In/Visible Cities’, in the framework of UNESCO’s International Year of Light, the Connecting Cities Network wants to develop an awareness on the changes which are hardly visible to the eyes and are underlying our nowadays cities.

Initiated by Public Art Lab in collaboration with Fraunhofer FOKUS the 2-day Prototyping Lab ‘In/Visible Cities: Prototyping Lab’ takes place as part of transmediale Vorspiel in the SUPERMARKT. During the ‘In/Visible Cities: Prototyping Lab’ creative developers, IT experts, urban planners and future visionaries used sensor measurement technologies to create DIY and crowdsourcing strategies dealing with the visualization of invisible technologies and data collection in cities. The three topics Safety (digital citizens), Climate Change and Energy (hybrid city) and translocality (Networkedness) is the participants starting point for exploring creative use of these data.

In this panel discussion the Prototyping Lab’s Jury Board and its moderators as well as international Connecting Cities artists will discuss the topic of ‘In/Visible Cities’ together with reknown researchers working within the topic. The ‘In/Visible Cities 2015: Prototyping Lab’ moderators; Julian Adenauer (retune Conference), Gabi Sobliye and Rafael Polo (Tactical Tech), Sebastian Meier (Interaction Design Lab) and the artists Mark Shepard, Ghana Think Tank, Onur Sonmez and Tamer Aslan will be present and spark the discussion with findings and questions raised within the Prototyping Lab.

The three best project ideas from the ‘In/Visible Cities 2015: Prototyping Lab’ will be selected by the jury; Susa Pop (Public Art Lab/Connecting Cities), Robert Kleinfeld (Fraunhofer FOKUS), Jürgen Bertling (Fraunhofer Umsicht) and Julia Kloiber (Open Knowledge Foundation Germany) and presented by the participating artist.

The Prototyping Lab was supported by the Culture Programme 2007-2013 of the European Union, RWE Foundation in collaboration with Connecting Cities, Fraunhofer FOKUS / Competence Center FAME Future Applications and Media, Open Knowledge Foundation and SUPERMARKT in the framework of transmediale 2015.
