Buika

Buika is one of Spain's most extraordinary singers. Her compositions, influenced by jazz as well as flamenco and copla andaluza, bespeak great emotional depth and devotion.

Since releasing her debut album, Mestizüo, in 2001, the Afro-Iberian singer has collaborated with jazz luminaries such as Pat Metheny and Chick Corea. For El último trago, an homage to the great Mexican singer Chavela Vargas, she worked with Cuban jazz pianist Chucho Valdés. The album was honored with a Latin Grammy in 2010. Buika achieved international prominence in 2011 with her contribution to the soundtrack to Pedro Almodovar's film La piel que habito (The Skin I Live In).

Buika's seventh album, the self-produced La noche más larga from 2013, contains songs of her own alongside reinterpretations, floating jazz arrangements, Latin American rhythms, and classics like Billie Holiday’s "Don’t Explain" in flamenco guise. Live, Buika touches audiences from continent to continent with her husky voice.
